Can Junk Removal Companies Take Appliances?

Yes. Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves, ranges, water heaters, furnaces, air conditioners and microwaves all go on the truck. At Junk Rush, one or two appliances is usually a minimum load at $175, carried out from the kitchen, laundry room, basement or garage and delivered to a recycler. The one thing to know ahead of time: gas and water lines need to be shut off and disconnected before we arrive.

That covers most of the question. Here is the rest, including what happens to the refrigerant, what to do when the new appliance is being delivered, and how the price works when you have more than one unit.

Which appliances junk removal companies take

The full list, so you do not have to guess:

  • Refrigerators and freezers, including chest freezers and garage fridges

  • Washers and dryers, stacked or side by side

  • Dishwashers, stoves, ovens and ranges

  • Water heaters, tank and tankless

  • Furnaces and old HVAC units

  • Window and portable air conditioners

  • Microwaves, range hoods and small appliances

Size and weight are not a problem. A water heater out of a basement or a refrigerator down a flight of exterior stairs is normal work. We bring dollies, straps and floor protection so nothing gets dragged. If an appliance does not clear the door, we take it apart on site. That is part of the loading, not a separate charge. See the appliance removal page for the full rundown.

Do you need to disconnect an appliance before junk removal?

Gas and water, yes. Electric, no.

Gas stoves, gas dryers and gas water heaters should have the gas shut off and the line disconnected and capped before the crew arrives. Washers, dishwashers and water heaters should have the water supply shut off and the lines disconnected. If you are not comfortable doing that, a plumber or your gas utility can handle it, and you can tell us if you need help arranging it.

Anything that just plugs into a wall, we handle. If a unit is hard-wired, like some ovens and cooktops, mention it in the photo request and we will advise.

Empty the fridge or freezer first. It sounds obvious, and it is the step people forget.

What happens to refrigerators and the refrigerant

You do not need to have a refrigerator evacuated before we take it. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners go to a recycler set up to recover refrigerant safely, then the metal is recycled. That is why we route them separately from general debris, and it is also why they cannot simply go to the curb with the trash.

Washers, dryers, water heaters and stoves are mostly steel. They go to metal recycling. Very little of an appliance load ends up at the landfill.

How much does appliance removal cost in Portland?

Pricing is by truck volume, and appliances are compact for their weight:

  • One or two units: usually a minimum load, $175

  • A kitchen's worth: quarter load, $265, or half load, $380, depending on the count

  • Several units from a rental turnover or a multi-unit building: quoted from the photo, often a half load or more

The price includes the carrying, the hauling and the recycling. There is no heavy-item fee and no stairs fee once you have the quote. If you are replacing units across multiple properties, ask about contract pricing and we set one rate for all of them. The tiers are on the prices page.

Timing the pickup with a new appliance delivery

Retailers vary on whether they haul away the old unit, and some only take it if the new one is a like-for-like swap. If yours is not being taken, tell us your delivery window. We schedule the pickup for the same day or the day after, so the old refrigerator is not sitting in the garage for a month. If the old unit is already out in the garage or on the porch, you do not need to be home. We pick up and send a photo when it is done.

Quick answers

Can junk removal take a refrigerator with freon in it?

Yes. Leave the refrigerant in. The unit goes to a recycler that recovers it safely as part of the process. You do not need a technician to evacuate it first.

Do you take water heaters?

Yes, tank and tankless. Drain it and disconnect the water and gas or electrical supply before we arrive, and we carry it out from wherever it sits, basement included.

Can you take appliances from a rental unit or apartment?

Yes. Rental turnovers are a large part of what we do, and appliance pickups are a common part of them. Our rental property cleanouts page covers how that works for landlords and property managers.

Have an appliance that needs to go? Text a photo to 971-484-8909 or use the Request an Estimate form. Mention where it sits and whether it is gas or electric, and you get a written quote before we roll.
